Each year, we start the Cruisers season off with a Saturday morning fun swim and the Club Executives flip “Jim’s Famous Pancakes” for parents and athletes of all aquatic disciplines in the courtyard at Harry Jerome. There are also Parent Meetings (highly recommended for new parents to attend) for each discipline, where you can meet the coaches, learn about training, competition plans and ask any questions you may have. Your Cruisers Team t-shirt will be available for pick up and you can place your Cruisers Aquatics Team swimsuit/clothing orders.
Movie and a Swim
This “must see and be there” event is for participants in all aquatic disciplines. There’s a movie, late night play-in-the-pool and a light after swim snack. The coaches and the volunteer coaches will be there to make certain that the kids have a great time. Please check website for dates.
Each year, Cruisers hosts “The Hootenanny” Swim Meet. The Hootenanny combines a Water Polo tournament, Synchro meet, Diving meet and Speed Swimming meet in five days. We usually have over 800+ participants from around the province compete, making The Hootenanny the largest summer aquatics event in the province and great training for Provincials.
During this meet, as part of the Cruisers fundraising efforts, we offer a Silent Auction (with numerous items donated by sponsors and club members) and a concession stand serving breakfast, snacks and refreshments. It takes about 100 volunteers each day to run this mega meet. Please make sure you sign up for volunteer duties, thanks! It’s always fun and a great way to support your children’s club.
There are many opportunities to earn back your fundraising deposit throughout the season. Please check back for details.
The Pep Rally is a fun team building event held in preparation of the Regional Swim meet and is typically held at Cates Park on a weekday evening in early August. Pack an outdoor summer dinner for your family and a dessert to share. Sit back and watch the kids have a blast with outdoor games and the ever-popular “cream pie the coach”! Please check website for dates.
Year-End Party (formerly Cheers Night)
This popular dinner and dance family event is the last event of the Cruisers summer season. It is the party many swimmers remember the most each year. After a buffet dinner and some creative entertainment supplied by the coaches, our house DJ will start up and rock the kids into the night. It’s a fantastic celebration for all our athletes hard work throughout the season and a chance for parents to relax and enjoy the festivities. Please check website for dates.
Awards Night & AGM
Usually the first weekend in October, the Annual Awards Night & AGM is a night filled with excitement and celebration! Parents attend the AGM while the kids enjoy a happy reunion with their coaches. This important meeting highlights the success of the season, opens discussion to any improvement recommendations and elections of any available executive positions. Then, after a light potluck snack/dessert buffet, Year-end awards for athletic and leadership achievement are presented. Please watch out for emails or check website in September for AGM/Award Night details.
Challenge Week is a full week to build strength, speed and endurance in preparation for Regionals. All athletes are encouraged to attend every practice that week and earn the coveted “I Survived Challenge Week” reward.
